This paper proposes a network concept called a signaling-free ATM core network, which separate bandwidth management from call / connection management, and reduces the burden on the call processing processor. Bandwidth management is performed by Fast Reservation Protocol / ATM block transfer capability. The core part of this network will remove signaling functions and will directly benefit from hardware improvements. This proposal is based on observations about the cost performance trends of network elements, traffic characteristics, and the requirements necessary to accommodate human behavior.
