Saito, H., "Simplified Dynamic Connection Admission Control in ATM Networks," ICCCN94.
This paper proposes a new connection admission control (CAC) for ATM networks called simplified dynamic CAC. The previous dynamic CAC was developed to achieve large statistical multiplexing by monitoring the number of cells arriving at a VP even when it is difficult for a user to specify exactly the traffic parameters in a source traffic descriptor. The dynamic CAC has been implemented and shown to be effective, but it requires extensive hardware and devices dedicated to the CAC because an estimate of the distribution of the arriving cells is needed. The simplified dynamic CAC proposed here removes this disadvantage of dynamic CAC by estimating a few parameters instead of estimating the distribution, but it has the same advantage as the dynamic CAC, i.e., the large statistical multiplexing gain even for services which cannot specify the exact traffic parameters.
