The fast growing number of hot spot service deployments in the last couple of years marks the first step toward a new ubiquitous information society. This new pattern of moving from one Internet access hot spot to the next has come to be known as nomadic service in recognition of its similarity to the way nomads move from place to place in search grasslands and water. This article highlights some of the new nomadic services that are emerging, and identifies the key enabling technologies needed to implement those services.
