| イギリス南西部、Bristol、Bathから車で１時間くらいのSomerset、Cheddarに１３日間ホームステイに行きました。チェダーチーズで有名な、チェダーです。 |

| I stayed in Cheddar ,Somerset for 13days with Mary. Cheddar is situated in the South West of Englnd and is famous for its cheese and strawberries as well as its beautiful scenery.It is about an hours drive from Bristol . |

| ステイ先のメアリーは定年退職を迎えたばかりの元お産婆さん。滞在中、毎日車で付近の観光名所や友人の家に連れて行ってくれた。 |

She is Mary who is a retired midwife.
My plan was to stay with Mary to improve my written and spoken English,we worked hard at this most days. She enabled me to visit many beautiful places of interest and she introduced me to several of her friends whom I had to converse with. |

フレッシュなラズベリーやブルーベリーを沢山楽しめるのはヨーロッパならでは。メアリーは朝食にもランチボックスにも必ず入れてくれた。本当に美味しい。 |

| Each day Mary gave me bleuberries and rasoberries at breakfast time and packed some for my picnic lunches,I reallylike these fruits, in Japan i can only get them in their frozen form and they are expensive. |

有名なフィッシュ＆チップス。パブで食べて美味しかったと言ったら、本物はテイクアウトの店にあるのよ、と買ってくれた。タラのフライの大きさ20センチ！ ビネガーをかけて食べてもやっぱり完食できなかった。 |

A typical traditional English meal is fish and chips which I had tried in a restaurant with my friends but Mary said "the best fish and chips come from the fish and chips shop and are best eaten form the paper" We bought some and the fish was about 20cm long plus lots of chips it was too mush for me to eat but tasted very good. |

Cream Teaってどんな紅茶だろう、と思っていたらスコーン２個と紅茶のセットの事でした。「クリームティーしましょう」と外出先で言う。
スコーンを半分に割ってクロテットクリームとイチゴジャムを大量にのせる。スコーンはクリームを食べるための台みたいなもの。のせ方が少ないと「もっとよ」と注意される。（お寿司にお醤油をつけすぎて注意されるみたいに。） |

| I thought cream tea meant tea with ahipped cream in it, but it means tea with two scones and clotted crream and strawberry jam,it looked too much but i managed to finish it! |

ラッキーなことに滞在中ずっと晴天だった。
日没が遅いので夕食後に高台へ夕日を見に行く。地平線とイギリス特有の幾何学模様に区切られた牧草地と牛たちが赤く染まっていく。とても贅沢な時間。 |

| Fortunatelythe weather was always seemed to be fine and we sat on the patio to watch the sun setting. One particular sunset was at Deep Leap an area at the top of the hill over looking the valley, the whole scane was gorgeous. |

チェダーはチーズの他に洞窟や峡谷で有名です。そのダイナミックな風景は新たな好奇心を刺激します。 ロッククライミングを楽しむ人々を見ました。自然に挑む、とは正にこんなことでしょうか。
洞窟探検は私の大好きな事の一つ。

| Cheddar is also famous for its caves and Gorge, its spectacular views nad scenery which stimulated me to skech and paint and think of travel and adventure but made me aware of danger whish I did not like,( the top of the Gorge is very high!) |

チェダーの街。敷地の半分以上が花の咲き乱れるイングリッシュガーデンが印象的だった。「花や緑が美しいのは強い日差し（猛暑だったので）と雨のせい？」と訊いたら「ほとんど雨のせい」との答え。 |

| The Cheddar town. Here has many beautiful flowers and trees and green lawns and I asked Mary if it was because of the sun?, she said " it was more likely to be all the rain we have". |

Sidmouthのビーチは石敷き。海水はとても冷たい。左サイドにかっこいい若者７人、右サイドにセクシーギャル３人。いいなぁ。
蟹サンドとビールとアイスクリームを食べた。 |

At sidmouth we sat on the pebbly beach and I had seven young teenage boys on my left and three sexy girls on my right which made a lovely summer scene for my sketching.
At lunch we enjoyed a crab sandwich and I drank a beer in the nearby cafe on the beach. |

| 滞在最終日はWellsカテドラルのクラシックコンサートに連れて行ってもらった。カテドラルの歴史の説明を聞くよりもこうして音楽を聴く方が好き。 |

| My last night in Somerset was spent at a concert in Wells Cathedral, it created an amazing and spiritual atmosphere, very moving. |
|

私はなぜかイギリス〜フランスを海で渡る事にこだわった。地図で見ると近いのにフェリー乗り場までがややこしかった。メアリーやその友人の助けが無かったら実現できなかったと思う。 |
|
| The following day Mary drove me to Dorset to stay with Rosie and Jhon who would take me to the ferry on the Sunday as it would have been too difficult to get there by train and I would not have arrives in time. I was travelling to St Malo by ferry and the trip would take 4 hours and 30 minutes. Rosie and Jhon took Mary and I to visit a lighthouse and I saw the ocean. |

St-Maloが見えてきた。船内のフランス語案内が耳にハッキリと聞こえてくる。英語漬けの滞在は実は結構辛かった、、、。
Poole から St.Maloまで高速フェリーで４時間半。イギリスとフランスに１時間の時差あり。イギリスはやっぱりEU諸国とちょっと違う。 |
