This paper describes Fast Resource Management (FRM) for CBR services for reducing call/connection processing in a main CPU by limiting processing for bandwidth reservation and bandwidth release to the ATM layer. The proposed Fast Resource Management uses the extended Fast Reservation Protocol (FRP). Two applications of the proposed method are shown: FRM between switches and end-to-end FRM. Numerical examples demonstrate the effectiveness of this approach.
