ATM networks provide high-speed broadband communication and they can assign network resources flexibly to each communication because the necessary number of cells are generated according to the amount of information to be conveyed. However, its the flexibility raises new problems for resource management. Although ATM networks offer services that have diverse traffic characteristics, they must support these services economically with assurance that quality of service objectives are satisfied. In order to clarify traffic characteristics, we have developed a Traffic engineering workstation. This paper describes its concept and design.
