２００１年度　２次試験

２００１年９月１６日　東京国際フォーラム　ガラスホール　受付：４階
長野からバスで３時間強．集合時間は１３時だったので，会場には少しまえに到着できるよう計算はしていましたが，
新宿から有楽町まではＪＲで３０分ほど．ガラスホールというのが，本当に駅の近くでよかったものの，到着したのは
１時５分前でした．　ただし，受付はそれほどきついものでなく，多少は遅刻しても問題ないようでした．
受験者控え室に入ると，２０人ほどの受験者が待機していました．
意外と男性が多いこと．ほぼ全員がスーツ姿でびしっとしていました．一人だけ(ユニクロ風）ポロシャツで，半そでに
ネクタイ姿は私ともう一人の男性だけ．おそらく運動靴姿は私だけだった思います．
「人物考査」の項目は，＊愛想がよいこと　＊アイコンタクトをとれること　それに＊きちんとした身なり
というところのようです．

受験者の勉強風景は様々ですが，さすがにハローの日本事象３００は強いようで，気が付いただけで３，４人の受験者
がみていました．あとは，対策用のコピーを見る人，自作のノートに目を通す人，さらに今日の新聞を（日・英）丹念に
読んでいる人もいました．

１時集合の受験者の面接は１時半，２時といった具合にグループ分けされているようです．
私は１時半と指定．
１時半になると，係の女性が１２名の受験者を呼名．もう一人の係の人も１２名呼んだので，合計２４名が１時半（午後
１番の面接）の面接を受験したようです．受験番号も呼んでいましたが，同じような数字が順番に呼ばれていたので，
おそらく受験番号順なのでしょう．
ちなみに試験会場に行く途中に話し掛けた人は仙台受験だそうです．
４人が１グループになって，それぞの試験会場に並べられた椅子に座りました．
隣りの人の受験カードが見えたので，１次の受験地などを聞きました．同じぐらいの年代の男性で，１・２次は５年ほど
前に合格したこと．３次は１回は棄権，１回は不合格とのこと．話が盛り上がってきたところで，係の女性に話を止めるよう
に注意されました．絶対，試験室に聞こえるはずがないので，厳しい態度．
後はひたすら沈黙．レポートの通り，一人の面接時間は５分．ほぼ，正確に終了していました．


面接



３番目は私の順番．試験室は思ったより広く，ある程度の距離をおいて，レポートの通り３人の試験官が着席．
私は向かって左側に試験を進行する試験官が座っていると思いましたが，右側．女性の試験官でしたが，すぐに面接に
突入しました．型どおりの「名前と住所を」という問いかけでしたが，この試験官の英語，大変上手で，それも相手を容赦
しないような，「切れる英語」　私が　"Ina city, Nagano Prefecture"と答えると，"Oh, mountainous district!"などと早口で
言われました．
それから，主任面接官という３０代の（いかにも英国人といった，独特のアクセントはありませんでした．それで，米国人かとも思っていましたが，サッカーのことをfootballというところかすると英国人だったかもしれません）男性．彼も英語を容赦する様子もなく，早口で，"I'll ask you two or three question. I hope you'll relax and enjoy talking with us."といった内容のことを言われました．
この二人の英語で私の方針はすっかり狂ってしまいました．実は，私はゆっくり，丁寧に自分の考えを整理しながら，
相手に理解してもらうように話すつもりでしたが，２人の試験官の英語の勢いに，こちらもつられて，早口で多弁に
なってしまいました．

Q1 Japanese adults sometimes read manga on the train. What do
you think about this?

Manga was born about 20 or 30 years ago when present adults were children and so they got accustomed to reading
manga. And it is easy to follow the story on a train because there are pictures and some words. When you read books full of Chinese characters and hiragana on the train, you get sick. And Japanese manga has a variety. There are manga for boys, manga for girls, manga for adults, even for elderly people and its story is complicated enough for adults to read. That's why many adults read manga on the train.




I: Do you read manga?.



A: No, I don't.
I: Do you prefer to read books?
A: No. I get sick when I read books on the train, so I just think.
I: You just think...
A: Yes, I like daydreaming.

Q2 What do you think about 2002 World-cup football games?

I am a baseball fan, so I'm afraid more and more people like to watch soccer games. I was surprised to see so many people watching the previous international game on TV, If so, many more people watched the soccer game , I cannot
imagine how many more people will enjoy watching the games.
And another thing. I am worried about hooligans. Just a tragic accident a few days ago, we cannot tell what will happen
in Japan. Security problem should be considered seriously.
I: You seem to be negative about the games.
A: No, I.'m just worried. Of course many people visit Japan. Naturally, their main aim is to watch football games, but they will have chances to see Japan. We also have good oppoturnity to let them learn about our country. So it's good chance for both of us to deepen our understanding.
I: So you think positively too.

Q3 Would you tell me about tea ceremony?

Tea ceremony! （ちょっとあたりまえすぎて！）　Yes, it's so common you can enjoy a tea ceremony even at a school festival. And you can enjoy iit at temples, too..
Tea ceremony was born about 14th century and it was completed by Senno Rikyu.
I: （さえぎって）Have you ever experienced it?
A: Yes, when I visited a temple, I enjoyed the ceremony. I ate sweet and drank tea. Before that, I rotated the cup though I didn't know how to do it, just looking at a neighboring person.
I: What to expect for the ceremony?（といった質問ですが，内容は忘れました）
A] I can enjoy the solemm atmosphere. I like the atmophere...
I:(私のsolemnの発音が聞き取れなくて）So...? （隣りの女性が合いの手を入れてくれる）
A: Yes, solemn atmosphere... cerene, silent... and I can think about myself during the cremony....
I: So a kind of meditation. I have never tried...
A: If you go to a temple in Kyoto, you can easily, experience at a cheaper price(?!)
I: Yes, but it's expesive to go to Kyoto .... So that's all..

面接を終えて

.　ハローのホームページで過去の受験者の面接記録を読みましたが，みなさんよく覚えていると思いました．
私は相手が言った質問もおおよそは覚えているものの，どんな表現を使ったのか，また，会話がどうして，そんな方向に向かったのか，面接が終わった直後なのに正確には思い出せません．
　今考えても，もう少し，ゆっくりと丁寧に話したほうが良かったと思います．それに，そんなこと言うなら，他に言うことあるだろう．という内容もあって残念．３人目の面接官は愛想が悪いと評判でしたが，そんなことはありませんでした．私は主任
面接官の顔しか見ていませんでしたが，両側の二人もうなづいて，話の進展に協力してくれていました．
