An evening of time and space travel featuring pan-Eurasian instrumentation and song in medieval, classical, and contemporary musics of Asia and Europe. Items from classical music traditions of Italy, the British Isles, India and Japan will give way to medieval encounters uniting the essence of South Asia, the Middle East and Europe in melodies and rhythms shared by all, and finally lead us into the 21st century with contemporary standards and improvisational excursions featuring the instruments and voices of Japan, India, and the West.
Music selections will include the following --
North Indian classical vocal and instrumental items
Thumri vocal form with Japanese poetic texts
Euro-Asian modal music improvisations
Renaissance and Baroque lute music
