of "Swing Jazz Company" in 1977. Since then we have continued
the band activities for 46 years based in and around Gifu city, Japan.
In 1981, the band name was changed to "SJC Jazz Orchestra".

32nd Autumn Concert with Ito Keiko (Vo) '10/10/23 |
Since forming in 1977, SJC has gained abilities in band emsamble ranging
from traditional swing to modern high-energy jazz through the major turning
points.
The first point was when the current band leader, Kameyama Issei succeeded Taniguchi (the former leader) in 1981, we changed our musical
band stile from "Glenn Miller / Benny Goodman" to "Count
Basie / Duke Ellington". His succession brought the upper-turning
in musiccaly / operationally for the SJC. Kameyama as a band leader has
galvanized and unified the SJC band-members for more than couple decades.
Up to this day, the continity of the band owes to his well-rounded characters.
The second point was when Horinouchi Tadashi , a great jazz musician, joined the SJC Jazz Orchestra in 1999, who is
a talented jazz musician, occasionally well-experienced jazz trumpeter,
occasionally bigband arranger / conductor. He has always inspired all the
band menbers musically and directed the band toward the "more serious
and challenging jazz".
In 2019, he passed away at the age of 83 and sorely missed by many people.
Now, he is a great legacy for the SJC!!
On 2007 Oct. 20th, SJC has staged a successful 29th Autumn Concert at Nagaragawa
Kokusai Kaigijo Main Hall, having a special guest, Tenor Saxophone player
- Kawashima Tetsuro, to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the SJC's foundation.
Subsequent the annual Autumn Concerts have been successfully done in front
of a large audience.
The SJC keeps to challenge toward the JAZZ-up!!
